Waking up on Thursday, July 12th, we were happy with where we were in our trip to Ogden, Utah and we fully expected to make it the rest of the way by early evening. If you missed the beginning of the trip check out The Adventure Begins! Part I. In our haste to get started with the day, we just grabbed a pick-me-up beverage, jumped in the car and headed for Colorado at about 5 am. Trey started out the drive on this day and I navigated. Troy – “Yeah, straight. Just keep heading west. Continue straight.” My job was tough, so why not get some more pictures? Well, I got over my initial shy camera trigger finger and started to catch some shots.
Day 2 – Kansas – Colorado – Utah
As we continued to drive west through Kansas, in the dark of the early morning, I could see the sun starting to appear behind us to the east. Hmm…A Kansas sunrise. I’ve never seen a Kansas sunrise before and due to all the hay field farms, we had plenty of flat ground to see what could be a beauty. The issue I had was that the sun was behind us but luckily it was more on my side of the car. Trey and I, being on a mission to get to Ogden, were not stopping to get a picture. I had to figure this out at 75 mph. What do you think:
The scenery was pretty much the same along the way but since we didn’t get pictures earlier, here are a few pictures of the drive from Kansas west towards Colorado:
It’s not so flat anymore! Look, we have mountains in the distance!
It was about this time that I discovered that we could listen to Pandora radio on my iPhone while we drove, so we set it on an 80’s station and jammed out for a while. We were so much into our tunes that we breezed through Aurora, the North side of Denver, hopped on Hwy 25 North and passed right through Loveland and Ft. Collins Colorado. After crossing the Colorado/Wyoming border, we arrived in Cheyenne and jumped on Hwy 80 West. We were excited at this point because the Hwy would take us right into Utah. After a driver change, I was back at taking picture, especially since my cell phone signal was fading and I couldn’t get Pandora as well. Here are some scenes from Wyoming:
Sometimes, you have to go through the Mountains!
This next picture was REALLY COOL! I almost missed it. It’s a picture of a hotel out in “The Middle of Nowhere Wyoming”. I don’t know why it was there, but maybe I just didn’t see a river or something. The rock formations up above the hotel are sweet! Check it:
At this point, we are about to cross over the Wyoming/Utah border so this is the last picture of the drive. I figured I would be taking plenty of pictures while in Utah.
Trey drove the rest of the way and into Utah. The drive into Utah was beautiful and now I wish I would have taken some pictures. Oh well. We arrived in Ogden at about 5 pm on Thursday evening, checked into the hotel, unloaded our stuff, got settled in, ate some dinner, watched some tube and we were out. Day 2 complete, mission accomplished. So, why Ogden?
